How do I get a record of my taxes?

You can view your free tax record—sometimes called a tax transcript—online or request it be sent through the mail. Note that getting your tax record will not help you get your refund faster.

Online

Set up an account to view the last 4 years of your tax records online for free.

Your tax record for the most recent year will be available within:

  • 4 weeks if you e-file
  • 6 weeks if you mail your tax return

By Mail

Fill out this online form to have your free tax records mailed to you.

If you aren’t able to request your tax record online or if you need a different type of tax record, you will need to download and complete Form 4506-T: Request for Transcript of Tax Return. This form can then be mailed, faxed, or hand-delivered to the IRS following the instructions included on the form.

Once IRS receives your form, most tax records will be mailed within 10 business days.

For help or to order your free tax record by phone, call 1-800-908-9946.

Note: The IRS will not email or send text messages asking you to provide log in information or other personal details. If you receive an email or text claiming to be from the IRS, please report phishing.
